The town for the Alligator Creek meatworks established in 1879. With the installation of the new prefabricated meatworks in 1914. 1200 people lived here under canvas. The town existed until 1966 when the meatworks closed. A post office existed from 1896 until 1966. Phantom Retreat is now on this site.
