Dreghorn .. Ravenswood District
Silver was mined in the Dreghorn area in the 1860s and 1870s but the area was abandoned with the Palmer River rush. Of great importance, rivalling that of the prehistoric caves in Europe, was the discovery of the fossil remains of a diprotodon in 1878 by Robert Logan Jack while conducting a geological survey of the Ravenswood Charters Towers area including Dreghorn –the feature story. |
